Quick & Dirty Affiliate Review Site Method

I have been playing around with some ways of getting review sites making cash and have finally got it producing sales.

Here is the rough break down of what I am doing.

1) Pick a niche
2) Create a review page for all affiliate products I want to review with affiliate links
3) Buy some PLR for the niche and break it up into several small text files or ebooks.
4) Create a squeeze page on index of site that offers a mini course/ free info/ whatever you can create from the PLR.
5) Add the PLR to your autoresponder series, Under each part where you provide something free, provide a link to the review page where the reader can get honest opinion of professional products on the market.
6) SEO the review page for review keywords
7) Write articles and drive traffic to your squeeze page

I know its a quick and dirty method but thats what I like. I don't want to be faffing around with sales text and autoresponders for days. Sometimes you can get enough PLR content to fill your autoresponder for a full year, so you are contantly driving traffic back to your review page.

I usually alternate it so one email will direct people to all reviews, the next email may give first line of a specific review and then give link to site.

The traffic referrals from autoresponder make up about 30% of total traffic from site, and also people end up forwarding the emails to their friends so I get new people also.

I add a little cookie stuffing code to the review page also, just so they don't slip through the net.

I have pretty much finished my main project now, so I am going full time SEO on my site network soon.

Next month I will provide some earning updates as this is pretty much make or break time for me. I have borrowed a lot of money to get my various projects off the ground, now is the time to see if they will make me the kind of money I expect.

How To Outsource Programming

After years spent managing a team of developers, I had slipped up with my own personal project. Here is my account of my mistake with a relaxed approach to using a freelancer, and how I fixed it.

I am having a web application built for the project I am working on. You may know that I used to run a company that sold software development services, so this should be a breeze for me right? Well, it should, but for some unknown reason I took a relaxed approach when using my own money and thought I could just hire a freelancer and explain what I wanted. Ha! I was very wrong.

After 3 months of going round in circles my friend Phil stepped in and pointed out where I was going wrong. For some reason I had left my professional methodology in the office and was taking what people said at face value. I went back to drawing board and developed a simple system (with Phil's guidance, who is much better than me at specifications), for getting software designed with a freelancer without the headache.

Here are the main points:

1. Make detailed specs for everything, never work from converations.

Create a document that describes exactly what you want. Imagine the person reading the document is a little bit retarded. Use examples, and create verbose specs. My original specs were around 10 pages and assumed the developer knew what I was trying to do. After re-writing them they came to closer to 60 pages.

If you have a chat with developer and something changes. Update the spec or ask them to do it. Make sure your spec is always current and keep a version history of all edits. Never leave instructions in a text or voice chat. Make sure there is a document that you are working from at al times. This way if the work doesn't match the document you are in a strong position, and not arguing about who said what in your last conversation.

2. Create prototypes before any code is written

A prototype screen is basically the design of the application, all the buttons and inputs, but it doesn'e work. This only takes a developer a few minutes to put together but will save a lot of time, money and hassle. I found myself waiting several weeks for a developer to show me something, and when he did it looked like a dogs dinner.

This is something that my company always did religiously, and for some reason I didn't ask for it when on the other side of the counter. Prototype screens let you quickly work out how you want the application to look before any coding is done, so when you get a product at the end, it is exactly what you want and expected.

3. Create details "acceptance use cases" ****MOST IMPORTANT****

This is critical! Create a big list of everything the software will do. Break it down into sections. Then tell your developers, once you can do each list, they will get paid.

This is a simple idea but soooo good. All I do when I get my software is get my list of things out and run through it trying to do each task and if any of the tasks is not as described, they don't get their money until it is fixed.

4. Used fixed price, with milestones and demand discounts for late work.

With good specs and acceptance use cases you will be able to create several milestones. These are key parts/features of the software. Each milestone will have an acceptance use case associated with it, and when you can complete all use caseses successfully they get the milestone payment.

By getting all milestones priced ahead of schedule you know exactly how much the software will cost you.

I use Odesk for the work and put it through their system. the developer has to specify a deadline date and if they go over it you have the power to demand a discount due to them not keeping with their deadlines.

It is important to not set your milestones too large or it can cause problems. If you let developers set their own milestones they will try and make as few as possible and get big desposit upfront. I like to make several milestones and offer no payment upfront. I only pay on completion of work. I can do this as I have a good buyer history on Odesk. 5/5 reviews and 5 figures spent on my account. If you have a new account you may need to pay a deposit upfront, just make sure its not too much.

Staying Accountable

First blog post in a long time. Reason I started this blog was to stay accountable to myself and have something to look back over that documented the steps I took.

My main project has taken over all of my time the last few months and been quite stressful. Hopefully that project will be launched in 2 weeks.

I haven't created my autoblog network yet. I have created several micro niche blogs for the purpose of building up adsense and EPN earnings on them. I like the idea of having a nice amount of web property with residucal income as it can be flipped at any point once it has steady income.

With the micro niche sites I am seeing that it is more a case of profit per page. You setup a page that describes the benefit of a product or service, then add EPN or Adsense code to it. People find the page by the related keyword and click through to the product after a quick read of the text.

With EPN I am getting a 10% CTR and £0.12 avg CPC. My adsense CTR is 3.5% right now but I am having some technical problems with my adsense sites that should be resolved in a day or two.

I am seeing that if you get a good keyword and rank somewhere on the first page for it + the longtails, then that page will make about £20-£30/month.

I have a site with about 10 pages and it's making anywhere from £30-£80/month depending whats going on with the rankings.

This site took me quite a while to build and I made several mistakes which I have learned from:

I chose a time consuming format so its not simple to just add new pages. I now am using an easier to follow format that looks good without to much messing around with layouts.
I made a review site. To get a good review that holds weight it involves going to forums, surveying customers opinions and a lot of searching. From now on I am going down a format that involves describing the product and the benefit of the product then providing the listings for the user to click. This will reduce the amount of time for generating content.
I tested a lot of plugins. I now have the ideal set of wordpress plugins that works with me and gets the desired results.
I spent too long on the SEO. For the amount of time I spent on the SEO, the return does not justify it. But what I have done is streamline all my actions into a straight forward system. Now I have a system that a VA can follow and do all the donkey work. I have a second PC which I will use all my automation software on and just leave it going in the corner of the room.

If you forget the time I have put into this project and all the expensive software and server fees I am paying, this project has made a return and paid for the content fees. Soon I will be at 10 micro niche sites. My hope is that this will be enough to cover all my hosting costs.

Here are some interesting figures for profit retun as I see it.

Let's say on average, each page on the micro niche site make £5/month and uses 2 hours of the VA's time submitting the articles for it, here is what the cost/return looks like.

Content Page - £2
Article Pack (Spin template & 11 proofread re-writes) - £7
VA's Time to submit - £3

Total - £12

This assumes that I will be registering domains, installing wordpress and running the seo software myself. So for a £12 investment, I can have a monetized article on my blog. Like I said before, I have a single page that is doing £20-£30 in EPN clicks at the moment but to be accurate we have to take into account the pages that don't do so well. So lets say average return on an article is £5/month. We would lose money at first but quickly regain it over the longer period. So the cost for setting up 10 micro niche blogs with 10 articles each using this system will be:

Domain Cost - £21
100 Pages of content optimised and ranked - £1200

And the return would be, asuming a £5/month average for each article.

100 x £5 = £500/month (£6,000/year)

That's a 491% ROI in first year. Not bad with modest page average, although I will be paying about £1500/year in subscription fees for the SEO services and software and my hosting costs will be about £1200 for the year.

So, to make a decent profit I think I need to have 100 sites, initially with 10 pages, but after I build the network I will go back and add content each month. This will hopefully stop the sites getting stagnant and dissapearing.

Setup costs for first year:

Setup Cost of 100 sites + SEO = £12,210
Yearly hosting = £1200 (although may be more with this amount of sites)
Yearly subscriptions = £1500

Total - £14,910

And I would need to make 8-9 sites per month to get this done within the year.

If each page brings in £5/month, then 100 sites with 10 pages each would bring in £5,000/month (£60,000/year).

Thats a lot of hard work to get it to that stage, but the figures look promising. Once I get to 100 sites I will just go back over and add more content and do more seo to get better rankings in an effort to get the average page earning up. Double it to £10/month and I will be bringing in £120,000 year just from passive sites.

It's a dream, who knows if I will get there. I have made a load of sites already, if I can get 10 sites making £500/mo then I will go for this 100% and scale it.

Wow! Blogs Actually Do Make Money

One of my blogs made £10 today.

I know, big whoop right?

Well... Yes!

I did spend a lot of time on this blog figuring things out but it's autopilot earnings right now. Today was £5 in EPN clicks and a £5 affiliate sale.

All content was outsourced. I just uploaded it to blog, added links and made it look pretty. On the next one I will be able to do it a lot quicker.

It's only a small bit of cash but it makes me feel good, like I am moving in the right direction. I also coded myself an application to generate some traffic to affiliate offers. Got about another hour or two left of coding to do before it's ready to roll. Looking forward to see if it makes any cash.

2am now and I have to go out tomorrow but so hard to pull myself away from my computer, even though I have been glued to it for last 12 hours.

Content Generation

As I am having 5 class c groups of autoblogs I am going to use 5 different methods of content generation. Each class c group of sites will have all 5 different methods. This also means each linkwheel will have all different methods of content generation.

The methods of content generation will be:

Advanced Article Marketing - spun content updated to blog by PRC

Unique Article Wizard - Wordpress plugin to add spun content

Article Scraping - Adding articles to blog by keyword from article directories that allow article syndication. All credits to author left in tact.

Video Scraping - Scraping youtube videos by keyword and adding them.

(For the article & video methods above I will also add RSS feeds from related sites)

Niche Blogger DX - Niche blogger provide a series of articles each moth to upload onto your autoblog. They also say they generate links.

Got a bit more keyword research to do before I get started. Like I said before, this isn't my main body of work so not sure how soon I wil have it up and running. End of next week is best case scenario I think.

I'm sure everyone has seen the autoblog earning claims:

Well...... Challenge accepted!

My own findings from autoblogs so far have been less than amazing. I do indeed get longtail traffic to them but it is usually completely off topic phrases for someone looking for something very specific that I don't have. I didn't want to risk my Adsense account so I was using affiliate clickbank links and the clickthrough has been very low.

Not deterred, I am going to have another go. I am going to try and find some extra ways to monetize the blog and get a little creative.

The formula as it is in my head now is:

Expired domain + wordpress + caffeinated content + autotweeter + atuo follow script + handful of links = enough traffic to make a few bucks a month.

It has been quite a while that I have seen people talking about twitter but no one ever seemed to be making any money off it so I stayed away. I have just been scoping out some auto follow twitter software that supports multiple accounts and scheduling. Depending on how well this works it could be all that is needed to kick start the autoblogs and get some income trickling in.

I wonder if 100 blogs being fed by 100 twitter accounts would be easy to manage? If it makes me $200/day I will be happy. I suppose if it does work I could add automated software for facebook, myspace and craigslist also.

Well, I will throw up a few domains and see how I go. This isn't my main focus but if I setup 2-3 a week in the background while I am doing other stuff I should be able to get an idea if it is going to work.

Where have I been?

I've gone sooo Guerrilla that I can't even be seen...!

No, truth is I have been M.I.A. End of november my sites got hacked and a few deals I was working on fell through. This comhbined with Xmas and a new years trip to Ireland to see family killed my motivation for doing anything productive (you may not have heard, but the Irish like to drink :) ).

I also employed someone to do some work for me and they have been stalling until finally admitting they are going to keep my deposit and not do the work. I found myself making excuses for my lack of progress when ultimately the buck stopped with me. People let you down, things happen. Even if everything that can possibly go wrong, does go wrong, you are still the one in control, and responsible for making things work!

Luckily last week I snapped out of it. I finished converting my spare room into a home office and got back on the ball chasing the money. Things are getting tight now, I need a form of income before march or I am really going to be in the shit.

Having an organised place to work has helped get my head straight. I know my back is to the wall but I am working one task at a time and not letting it overwhelm me. I try to finish a task everyday, that way at the end of each day I feel like I have achieved something and am one step closer to my goal.

I am going to carry on working on the affiliate sites I set-up but I am not going to do any more. The income from them isn't great and they take a fair bit of work to get looking good. I am going to concentrate on sites for local businesses in the hope of getting a few quick flips that can go towards paying the mortgage.

I still have my big project working in the background but there is constant set back on that so I am not relying on it taking off immediately.

I'll be coming back hopefully over the next few weeks with some positive results and tactics that are proving effective.

Also, if you would like to do a JV I am willing to do all the SEO for a website if someone creates all the niche content. I like doing the SEo more than I like writing about obscure topics so it could work out well and possibly repeat it with several niches.

Where am I now?

Hey Guys,

A little while since I posted. I am not rolling in cash yet, my residual income so far is around £300/mo, barely enough to make a scratch let alone a dent. This also doesn't take into account the money I am spending out on content, hosting and other services. So all in all I am still in the red.

I have an admission to make that I have not created a fraction of the blogs I set out to. The liquidation is still dragging on, my previous business partner split and left me holding the can. For a while I lost all motivation and considered getting (pardon the swear word) a J....O....B!!!

Momentary madness over, I have regained my composure and re-assessed my situation. Writing and researching about a variety of topics I hold no interest in is not me. My SEO skills have greatly improved over the last few months and rankings are not a problem to get, but finding the motivation to get excited about micro niches and getting powerful sites put together is lacking.

This has pushed me to the decision that I should stick with what I know and setup a "proper" business. I have lots of ties in the software development and training industries, so I will plough further into debt in order to setup a new agency.

I will also be carrying on with the affiliate blogs but this will not be my main focus. I would much rather be in control of the product and sales tracking. After sending thousands of pre-sold hops to some affiliate providers without a single sale I am getting a little pissed off.

I have created a business plan, wireframes and marketing strategy for my new venture. I have secured funding and am now in process of getting everything made so I am mad busy which is great for the soul. Sitting around aimlessly is a slow and unusual torture for me.

I have a few good people I am talking to right now so don't be surprised if very soon I come out with my own set of services and products and try to carve out my own niche on the Internet. This will not be IM related as that industry makes me feel a little queasy when I look at what some people want you to believe, but it will be in a supporting area that is useful and has quantifiable results.

Standard Bank Accounts Suck

One of the advantages of running a business that turns over a lot of money is that you get very good service and support. Now I have closed that account and opened a new one I am back to standard support.

This whole morning has been wasted trying to find someone at my bank who knows what a letter of credit is.

I have found a sweet product in China so I'm going to import it to sell on ebay to get a bit of cash in hand but as always lots of obstacles in my way. Fingers crossed I get it all sorted out today.

I have been quiet on my blog as you may/may not have noticed. This is because I am putting together a proper business plan.

I found that by jumping in feet first I ended up doing a juggling act and certain areas got over looked. So I have taken a pause to write everything I am going to do in detail and create step by step instructions for everything before hand.

This will hopefully allow me to address any issues before I run into them and allow me to give step by step hand outs to any outsourcers I use.

I am about 20 pages into it so far and it is really helping me. It is funny how there were things I thought I had worked out 100% but when it comes to writing it down there were still a few things to iron out.

I can't recommend doing this highly enough. Before you understake a project, write down everything you will do in detail. Then from this create a schedule of what you need to be doing each day, and from that work out deadlines and milestones so you can keep on track and get the project finished.

I am also using the free version of http://www.project2manage.com/ aswell as Google docs for collaboration purposes and to track progress.

Quality Takes Time

One of my sites that I put together on the quick with outsourced articles has now got some rankings and targetted traffic so I have gone back over it to monetize it.

The first thing I did was properly read the outsourced articles. I know I should have done this first but I just wanted something up so I could get it to rank.

I had expected to just tweak it a bit, but after readining it the whole site will need an entire re-write.

Last couple of days I have been re-writing the site and adding some custom graphics. I have to say its turning into quite a nice site, in a few more days it should be almost complete and I will be very surprised if it doesn't start to make me money very soon.

Now I have got a few sites up there, I think I will write the onsite content myself and just use outsourcers for the SEO fodder articles. When some money starts coming back in I will higher a more expensive writer to handle onpage stuff but I don't feel comfortable doing that until I start to receive some affiliate pay-checks in the mail.

Over Reactions

It seems to me that the majority of the warrior forum live in a constant state of caffeine fueled panic.

At the smallest thing you get pages of angry/worried/perculiar messages from people thinking its the end of the world.

The last over reaction was the FTC saying they could go after people for fake testimonials. I am sure this was a move to try to give them some more power against con-men and not to persecute blog owners. Just imagine how hard it would be to prove a testimonial is fake, and how much the court case would cost them. This legislation probably will effect less than 0.1% of internet marketers yet it has let to a constant stream of crazy posts from people convinced if you alter a testimonial you are going straight to jail. So far I am yet to hear of a single case going to court.

Now the latest fury is over Google's side wiki. People are calling it "Evil" and recommending people ban all google toolbar users from their site.

WHAT NONSENSE!

It's like a paying customer walking into a shop but you refuse to serve them because their mobile phone has some software on it you don't like.

Lets get one thing straight, I am not a fan of side wiki. It is too easy to spam negative comments at people. But guess what I am doing now? Well, I am spamming positive comments at my sites. So far on every site I have been to I am the first person to leave a message.

The truth is that only a small percentage of your visitors will bother to check it out, and I doubt people will take much stock of it as it is so easily abused either way.

Another thing, this is not new. There has been software out there that does this for years, the only difference now is that it is incorporated into the google toolbar which it very widespread.

Bottom Line: If side wiki effects your bottom line then you have some weak ass marketing. Go to the library and read some REAL marketing books and stop wasting your time with step by step get rich quick ebooks.

Sleepless Nights

I have fell back into the groove of making sites and promoting them. I have the IM bug bad and I am burning the midnight oil every night. Think I may turn into a vampire soon if I don't start gettig some sun soon lol.

My rankings are looking very promising now. I am creeping up the list on some highly searched terms. I am noticing that wordpress blogs seem to get a lot of junk traffic, I understand better now the posts from people who think they are getting 100 a day to look at their site but no sales. On one day, one of my niche blogs recorded 700 visits, but i think only about 10 of them were human. This could be due to the amount of directories I have been submitting to. They could be checking the link works or being scraped by spammers.

Now that I am starting to get traffic I need to monetize it which is always the tricky part. I got a load of work ahead of me but it feels good to be doing what I love. I have made a few good contacts recently also and I am discussing various business ideas with them.

Getting the temp ban in such a cocky way from the WF has made me not want to contribute there any more or submit guides. I will go back there eventually I guess but for the time being it is a good thing as I am focusing on getting things done.

Can't say I am upset. They have the authority there. I had thought the thread posed a good value and interesting reading, although I guess that is not what their main concern is. The main focus I guess is to keep the buyers desperate and control what information they are exposed to.

I am not here to rock the boat. I think my ban will eventually lift and I will continue to read the forum but I won't be submitting any more tutorials or how to videos.

I originally setup this blog as a reaction to my situation. Things looked bad but it wasn't in my nature to lie down, give up and start whining. I never knew that by telling my story I would meet so many great people who were like me trying to make a success of their lives.

London Lunch

The London lunch was interesting. Can't say it was any great motivation. People seemed to be split into two categories. Either your not making much money or your claiming to make lots of money and selling products to teach others how to do it.

I was a lot younger than pretty much everyone there but a couple were close to my age and we enjoyed a few beers. Made some good contacts and swapped some info. I don't think I will go back there again. I might arrange my own similar night for slightly younger marketers and have it set in a more lively surroundings like leicster square.

Wordpress for SEO

I am starting to love wordpress now. It took a while to get the hang of customising it to my own specifications but now I'm getting on with it like a house on fire.

As I mentioned I use article distribution services to build backlinks. Well, on those articles I include a link to one of my posts and I get pingback requests appear in wordpress.

This shows me where my article is listed. Most of the times it is buried deep within a low page rank site so the chances of the search engines counting it are low. So what I do is throw a few comment links from other peopls blogs at my spun article to make sure it gets indexed. This way I am truly benefiting from the article distribution services.

I have been having great difficulty getting my spin templates made up by outsource writers. I have been waiting 2 weeks for a single article to be properly finished with my current guy.

In the forum yesterday I noticed mention of a service call "Human Spinner". I tried it out today and it is really good. I can approve or decline idividual sentances which is really cool.

Bad side of it is that it requires more of my time to go in and accept/reject than if I just outsource the whole job but I got the article back in just a few hours which is the most important thing for me right now as my current writer seems quite busy.

I Am Getting LAZY!!

My motivation has seriously lapsed last few days. Other than research a few keywords I haven't really done anything. Feel like a bit of a lay-about right now, going to get my laptop out and make a couple of sites.

If anyone is heading over to the london lunch this Friday I will be there. I think a lot of people go there to JV to their lists etc.. but I am just going to have a general chat with other marketers and see how they are getting on. Would be good motivation for me I hope. Never been to one of these things so I have no idea what to expect.

Will report back on how it goes.

My Current Status

It's been an emotional month but I have finally started to relax.

A couple of months of hammering special offers to the database and shuffeling assets has cleared my personally secured debt on my business account. Still have the creditors meeting to go but fingers crossed everything should go smoothly and I will walk out of this relatively unscathed.

Haven't made a salary in a while but my credit status looks good. Have 2 untouched cards and a overdraft to use while I get myself back on my feet. Played a little golf this week, went to see some family. Even optimised a mates website as a favour. I like this pace of life - no staff hasseling me - no one kissing my arse - no awkward clients - no daily commute - no 9-5 work schedule. It's great! I just gotta make some money and get the mortgage paid lol!

So far the new sites I am setting up havent made any money (unless you include the £1.50 i made in adsense). I got through the first batch of sites and they are getting some traffic now on long tails. I am just concentrating on content right now, doing a little bit of linking but just some experimental stuff testing a few footprinting techniques (1000 non spammy links from high PR domains with the click of a button... can you say CHA CHING?).

System is simple, find opensource software that allows for posting of profile page and a link. Use website footprinting to create a list of sites using the software. Automate the registration process and profile creation.

It's like doing every one of angelas packets in 30 minutes LOL. My server has 2gig RAM and 100mbit connection. I am running this at 100 concurrent threads.

Process still needs refinement, I am still experiementing. I contacted a few so called experts for help with this and no one would help me, even with the offer of coaching fees. I feel like I have broken the back of the research now and have a solid technique in the making.

In brief it will go something like this:

Create spin template article in AMA using short tail keyword
Convert this to UAW
Convert this to linkvana
Do social nuke in senuke posting a spun version to each page as the article.
Smash out 1000 profile links with long tail keyword to each and every social page.

Expected Result: Long tail keyword domination. Social pages take up first 10 results. Main site ranks for short tail keyword.

I haven't really gone to the trouble of properly monetizing my sites yet. As I am doing such a volume of websites I am going to wait to see which ones rank fastest and concentrate my efforts there.

Have taken it easy this week, will step up my efforts next week. I need to research another 100 keywords but right now I'm eating pizza and playing computer games... ahhh... this is the life!

All In One Threads - Very Clever Thinking From Allen

So for anyone that missed it, the WF is now doing moderated "All-in-one" posts where that tag is added to title, then when you search the forum for this tag it brings back amazing content created from some of the most active and successful internet marketers.

So what's in it for us?

These threads will have great content and will be easily accessible. Inevitably they will get many inbound links and gather a good level of page rank and traffic.

Anyone who posts on these threads will get extra link juice passed to their signature links, as well as extra traffic through direct clicks if they have a related product.

So in summary, we put in some time collating a good informative resource, this will get the thread ranking in search engines really high eventually. The forum gets extra visitors and the posters get extra link juice and traffic to their signatures. It's a win win situation.

I suggest if you see one of these threads appear you spend a few minutes doing a bit of research and make a post on it. Even if you don't have a signature link now, you will still get extra benefit by adding one at a later date.

I think I need to try a different angle with my keyword research videos. Right now I do my research based on my experience. I think it is a bit too much to try and show every different situation and bit of knowledge I have learnt over the years. I need to simplify it a bit, but not to the point where is is rendered useless.

Simplyfying things is pretty complicated though when there are so many different factors that apply.

I think I will design a checklist of things that people should check on the first 10 results. Or perhaps make a flow chart and then for each section of the flow chart make a video.

If anyone has some ideas then I would love to hear them.

It might be the case I have to re-shoot this section at a later date to make it more interesting. I wrote some pitch prompts down this time to help me get through video and I sound a little wooden, but it is all good practise, the more I make the better I will get at it.

Hopefully it comes through. The deal is with a company that make custom PC's. I am tempted to do a trade in exchange for a couple of top end gaming machines, but cash right now is king.

So who would have thunk it? Corporate websites are an amazing source of research. They obviously can afford top draw talent to do their research for them. I am really enjoying leeching all these great keywords from them.

I am finding low competition keywords with £14 per click!! I don't understand what any of the keywords mean, but someone out there does. I am going to have to do some painstaking research now. I don't think I will be short of work to do any time soon.

Big Value Leads?

OK, so I'm carrying on with my research and I stumble onto some keywords that some big players are after (namely IBM & BT).

The truth is, I have no idea what these keywords mean. It is some sort of big business corporate service. The search values are pretty low but I am wondering what sort of prices these leads are worth. If a corporate closes a million pound deal from one of my leads its gotta be a nice payout.

I don't know if this is a dead end or not but I am now setting about reverse engineering corporate websites to see what keywords they are targetting, to see if I can get in there and grab some of the action.

I hate dealing with corporates, but I have experience selling to them so I am pretty sure, with a little research, I could get a conversation with the right person.

Killer Niche!

Doing my usual keyword research and I stumble onto a MAJOR niche.

I find around 30 keywords that are all achievable within the same niche. Top keyword has 50,000 exact searches each month.

I am going to sacrifice quantity a little to go for quality within this niche. It is nice to come across something like this, especially as a quick call round turns out one of my friends has contacts in this niche. (And no, sorry, I am not going to share this discovery, but I will teach you how to find your own).

Been looking at website leasing recently. This is a great business model, I am going to test it out and see how it works for me. What I like about it so much is that if you lease a site with natural results and traffic, its a big hook to keep someone on the line. It also allows you to commit more resources than normal as you retain ownership and will make any shortfall up on the backend.

I've also decided to get a ghost writer to create me an info product for one of my sites. This is partly because the affiliate providers in this niche have rubbed me up the wrong way. If all goes well I will create a nice product, advertise it, then flip the site.

Someone managed to convince me to go work tomorrow to let them finish up some loose end, so I am giving up my saturday. Looking forward to having a few weeks coming up where I will dedicate 100% of my time to IM.

Last Day

Last official day of work in the office today. Feels very strange, I worked so hard to build this place up and now I'm leaving it behind.

Can't really get my head into work mode right now, need a break from all this.

Complications with working out a solid agreement with my current business partner are also pissing me off. He has gone all wishy washy and my patience is being tested.

I am impatient by nature, I want quick results, all this procrastination is driving me crazy. I just want to define a work agreement and move on.

Been reading the forum today. The amount of misconceptions regarding keyword research and SEO are amazing. In many "Gurus" attempts to dumb down systems to make them sound easy they completely ignore the fundemental concepts involved in keyword competition analysis.

I'll be honest, part of me wants to keep quiet and not mention my techniques. This would certainly keep down the competition, but I remember the people who helped me when I was getting started and to be honest very few people will like my method because it actually involves learning theory. Unless it involves clicking buttons without any thought process then many people lose interest.

I've started creating a keyword research course that I am going to release for free, no opt ins or affiliate products running off the back of it. Just some videos to help people make money.

Too many people who post in the forum have hidden agendas and multiple accounts, it can be tricky to pick out the real information versus the hype. I won't be shouting about the videos, I'll probably just make a single post and put them in there then leave it at that, so they are there if people look hard enough.

This will be secondary to making myself money of course so I cannot guarantee when it will be finsihed.

Found out today I am entitled to a small payout from government, around £1,500. Which isn't too bad. Also I will be paying liquidator out of overdraft, which will then be transferred into long term loan, and once liquidation is complete and assets cover liquidations costs I get that refunded to me. So it's kinda like getting a back door loan. I'll have a bit of fun with that cash on PPC.

Hubpage Test 1st Page

My test hub is now on first page os USA results for its main keyword (18,000 exact searches for main keywork per month).

I didn't actually do any more work on it, it made its way up there itself.

I will need to do a little work on it to get it near the top of the page but im not too bothered about it, I was just doing a test of a theory. I will use this method to promote my articles so they get first page rankings.

I should really make a video of this for the forum. I have been trying to make some videos but I keep loosing my place in them and giving up. I might have another pop a little later.

Met with the liquidator today. A nice chap, he ran me through all the options. Should have things wrapped up here within the month (Not a moment too soon).

Incansoft Software Dissapointing

Big Mike's software is really well priced and packaged but it isn't generating me as many backlinks as I expected.

I have been playing extremely slow email tennis with Diego trying to work out why I am getting such poor results.

I have seen people post in the forum that they get 30+ links from using socialbot. So far my record is 2 links from it.

I have gone out and bought some other software to play with while they get their act together. Right now we are spoilt for choice with the amount of software on offer.

One really cool thing that caught my eye was something called IMacro. It is a free plugin for Firefox that records your actions and repeats then. You can also pull out data from an external file.

"So what?", I hear you say.

Well... It means you can automate things like Angela's backlink packet, or signing up for social sites. It can even be used with a third party captcha breaking service to make things fully automated.

It is not for basic users, but for anyone who feels comfortable learning some basic scripting it can save you the annual $1500 for SENuke if you want automated social site posting.

I'm going to play around with it if I get the time. Right now I am busy trying to perfect my blog creation and promotion system. Running into lots of annoying technical glitches and wasting time researching which plugins to use. Hopefully in a couple of weeks time I will have worked out most of the kinks.

Things Progressing

I have got the majority of the first batch of articles back and they seem pretty good value. Just going through the process of creating and uploading the blogs. Right now I am taking a little time to experiment with different plugins and services as once I get into the swing of things I don't want any down time.

I have laid out a plan that involves creating 360 blogs in 3 months, with each blog having 500-1,000 one way links pointing at them, and also getting backlinks to the pages linking to my blogs.

It's a tall order and will cost a fair bit in outsourcing fees, but I feel this is a safe investment. On this scale of optimisation the 'per blog price' reduces greatly. I am estimating that each blog will cost $60 to do all of the following:

WordPress installed
Domain name registered
Unique content written and uploaded
500-1,000 one way links generated from a mix of authority, directory & blog sites

I am sure if I listed for sale a fully loaded blog with addons installed, content uploaded & google rankings generating traffic, then someone will be willing to pay more than $60 for it. So if I fail to generate sales at least I have this to fall back on. I dare say I might be able to sell the whole network in one go for a reasonable profit.

I know some people will be scratching their heads at the $60 and thinking it's very cheap (it is, I have spent a lot of time working out this process), but it does not include mine, or my (possible) business partners time working 10 hours a day for 3 months to make it happen.

I say "possible" as we are still working out some details, but I will know for sure in 2 weeks if we will be working together again (he is co-director of company I am closing down).

My hub test is top of page 2 in Google now for its targetted keyword. I like this position as I use my 'sling-shot' method to make it jump to page 1. All that basically is, is adding some more content and another boost of links straight after. Then next time google bot comes and finds new content and registers links it will hopefully put me on first page. I'll probably do that this weekend as I am busy with work right now.

I have also had a few ideas for new tests once this one is finished. One will be a 'Big Mike Test'. I will use all of incansofts software to build links (I bought all of it lol) to a site and see how many I can get just by using their programs.

And another test will be an article distribution test. I will write 6 articles for the same keyword and build links to each article using a different distribution service. I will then sit back and see which article ranks quickest and highest.

These tests won't be conclusive, as they would need to be repeated hundreds of times in all categories to be anywhere near scientific, but they should be fun to watch and I will hopefully gather some useful data.

Emergency Plan

The cold hard reality of no cash is starting to dawn on me. If I am going to start up this venture I not only need to borrow money but also support myself at the same time.

On top of this I am trying to negotiate my outstanding debts into a long term loan, which whatever happens will be a large monthly premium.

The reality is unpleasant to look at but it's something I need to do. I need to rent out my property and probably move in with family until things pick up.

Ideally I don't want to do this. I have been thinking that it might be a better idea to go chill in a country with a lower cost of living and nice weather, but I am not sure where.

Philippines is cheap but I didn't like it over there. Too many kidnappings and terrorists.

I hear Thailand is nice but I don't know much about it. I was in Thailand once but never left the airport as it was just to catch a connecting flight.

I have never travelled before so I don't really know what the world is like. Can anyone suggest a nice country with a very low cost of living that I can escape to with my laptop for 6 months to get things off the ground?

First Bit of Good News In a While

I feel quite happy right now. Something happened today that I can't talk about in detail but which has relieved some pressure.

The jist of it is that someone has been leaning on me for a long time for various reasons. They tried to do something underhanded which would have made my life pretty miserable, but due to my own honesty they completely messed themself up. I really can't talk about details for legal reasons, but the short of it is that someone got jist of what they were trying to do to me, and not only tipped me off, but jumped ship (or you could say defected) at the same time.

I know that makes absolutely no sense but it is a really good thing, I just can't tell you why yet. And I can't talk about it until January 2010 either.. LOL!

So why make the post? Well, it is the first bit of good news I have had in a while and I wanted to share my happy mood :D

It doesn't make any real changes to my plans, but it means I have some extra strings to my bow.

I'll explain this cryptic post when it is safe to do so.

Targets

Today is really tough. I have people chasing me for payments left right and centre and I don't have the cash to pay them.

I have stopped all my paid advertising, moved half the sales people onto comission only and I'm just trying to do leadgen from my existing database.

I'd love to walk away right now as this is like pulling teeth but I have responsibilities to try and finish this in the best way possible.

OK, so enough mellow drama. Onto positive matters.

I am treating this job like a sales job and setting targets for myself. Right now the most important thing I need is targetted traffic. The way I am measuring this is by using googles predicted searches as a value. Then for all first page rankings I achieve I add these numbers together.

So, for instance:

Blue widgets - 13,000 searches/mo
Red widgets - 7,000 searches/mo

If I ranked on first page for both of these terms I would give myself 20,000 towards my target.

My 3 months target is 300,000 search value ranked on first page.

This would hopefully mean:

300,000 searches = 6,000 clicks (2% CTR) = 300 conversions (5% conversion rate) = £6,000/mo profit (with avg. sale value at £20).

That all sounds rosey but there are many risks involved, which are:

I might not get rankings in 3 months (I should be able to but you never know)
I might not get 2% CTR. Google's traffic estimator works on a basis of 0.5% for top 1-3 paid advertisers. I know with good page titles I can beat this so I am hoping 2% is a good number.
I might not get 5% conversion rate. 5% conversion rate is high for a clickbank affiliate product, and even some CPA offers, but it can be done. What I am hoping will save this figure is that I will be doing leadgen for offline companies where with a good landing page I know I can get 10%+ conversion rate and also sell the lead to more than one company.

So, for instance lets say I get a 0.5% CTR and a 2% conversion rate. The above formula would look like this:

300,000 searches = 1,500 clicks (0.5% CTR) = 30 conversions (2% conversion rate) = £600/mo profit (with avg. sale value at £20).

Now if that happens it won't even cover my setup costs as I am planning to spend around £2,000/mo on articles, domains, hosting & link building services. I may also need to hire a VA on top.

Over the 3 months I will try to optimise around 600 keywords, with an estimated total search value of over 1 million searches, so I am aiming for a 30% success rate within 3 months.

The thing that might save me is that I am sure to see a healthy amount of traffic from long tails that I am not specifically targeting. On my existing sites, that target competitive phrases, long tail keywords make up around 10% of my traffic.

By optimising so many keywords in such a short space of time, I am hoping that almost all of my sites will generate some longtail keyword traffic which will act as a bit of a safety barrier for my figures.

Truth be told I have never optimised keywords on anywhere near this scale in such a short space of time. If you had asked me a year ago I would have said it was impossible. It is only now my system is perfected and the new services available that I can make this happen.

I wrote down my whole optimisation process at the weekend and it is pretty fool proof as it uses a lot of automated systems for generating one way links.

I am taking a big risk with this. I do not have the money to do this so I am having to borrow it from my family. I know it may sound a little foolish to some but I have a good feeling about it and I believe that if I manage to hit my targets then the payoff will be worth it.

I have had enough of demanding customers/clients and high overheads. I want my monthly wage on autopilot so I can take some time out to travel around the world. I am 27 right now and I have been a workaholic since I was 19. It's time for me to reap some rewards from my experience.

I found out about a little trick that anyone doing mass seo like me will be interested in.

If you have built your own blog network on different IP's for backlinking juice to your main site then stop Yahoo from indexing them.

So, why do this?

Well, if Yahoo doesn't index them then your competition won't be able to see where your backlinks come from. They will all be sitting around scratching their heads wondering why a guy with 0 backlinks has taken #1 spot on a competitive keyword.

Not a necessary action, but a good way to keep your link juice producing blog farms hidden.

Hub On First Page of Yahoo & Bing

The key word I really want to rank for though is "Kelli Garner" as it gets the most searches.

The celebrity hub page I made now ranks in google page 4 for a long tail keyword and on yahoo page 8 for short tail keyword. 60 blog comment backlinks showing in yahoo.

I am considering whether to spam more links at the hub or to spam links at the backlinks. I think a safer method will be to spam links at the backlinks but I will just go for direct spam to hub page.

There will be a toolbar update probably in about a month, I want to see how easy it is to get it ranked up.

I will spam out some more links and try to push it to around 200+ confirmed links and then wait to see what movement occurs.

Servers Hacked

My Shared hosting got hacked today. No big deal just another headache and extra work to sort it all out.

The hosting company (1&1) have been particularly incompetent. Al I asked them to do was to check the server at their end to make sure it wasn't compromised and they just tell me "NO!".

They say they won'd do anything until they get lots and lots of complaints. Damn fools!

I made a post about this on WF but it got deleted in less than 2 minutes. Forum Nazis out in force today.

Directory Submissions

Just having a look around in the link section of WF (can you believe I have never been there before?) and I see people selling 2000 directory submissions for $20.

They claim to be manual but I find that hard to believe.. still.. for $20 it seems ok.

I'm going to buy a few for new sites that dont have any BL and see if it helps them rank on easy keywords.

Business is dragging me down. Too much stress and loose ends to tie up to make sure I don't let anyone down. It is really killing my motivation. Think I may get away to country side this weekend for a few pints with my brother to de-stress.

Only thing that is picking me up is the dream of a business with no employees or overheads. Soon as I achieve a passive profit I am going to find some tropical beach somewhere to coordinate things from.

Blog Networks

OK, so here is the secret sauce I am going to use to rank my selected keywords.

Article Distribution Sites!

If you are not familiar with these sites, it is where you upload an article, and use their re-writer software so each time it distributes it, the copy is unique.

The blog farmers then come along and download your unique content for their autoblogs. These are mainly MFA sites but they have a few good advantages:

Links are one way and will start on the index page of the site.
Links use anchor text and they even let you rotate anchor text.
Links do not get removed. Google's spam filter monitors for links that get added then removed as this indicates spam links that are getting removed by webmasters. For instance if you make 10,000 blog comments and then the next week only 1,000 of them are still there, google may take a closer look at you and possibly penalize you. This is why when first building links for a site its best to use links that will be permanent. You can boost it up aftrwards with a few spammy links if you want to.
Links appear naturally in the article. With comment links it is very easy for google to identify that its a comment by the formatting and text around it. With this method it works much better.
They have a drip feed option. This means that just a few articles get posted a day so it looks really natural.
Autobloggers build links and interlink their blogs, so, a lot of the time you will be linked to from a page with good PR.
Links come from a wide range of different IP's, which google really likes.
When these links show up in SE, you can blast some backlinks at your articles to beef up the link juice they pass on.

There are lots of these sites (PM me for a list of the ones I am using), but the really good thing is that once you have setup the article in one, you can use it in all of them saving hours of time. This lets me pretty much automate the process of ranking on keywords with low competition.

You could get similar results by submitting articles yourself and then building backlinks to your articles. Personally though I do not have the time for that.

So the work on this project looks like this:

Identify keywords - I do this
Have article written for each keyword - I outsource
Have spin ready articles written that cover all keywords (each template will cover 2 keywords) - Again I outsource this
Install wordpress and upload articles - me again!
Submit spinready articles to all distribution sites - Yours truly.

So really I have to do very little work with this approach and each page will build up 1000+ relevant one way links and hopefully rank (if it doesn't I will give it extra nudge with other methods).

However, monthly running costs for me are about $300-$400 and I will be spending about $1500 in content and spinready articles each month.

Once this is all setup, I will also setup my own blogfarm using other peoples content on different IP's. Then build links to these and run random sitewide links to my main sites.

I know it all sounds like spagetthi junction when I describe it. If I feel creative later I will draw a diagram of it. (I think I made one already in an old post, I will have to check).

In other news: I took a decision today to dedicate 100% of my time into making a passive income online. This means that I won't be doing any telesales or dealing with any clients. I ran the math and my overdraft should pay the mortgage for 3 months so this is how long I have got for all of this to start working. Strangely, making this decision has made me less stressed and I fully believe that it can be done.

Plan Formulating

OK, so it's going to be tight, but, no guts no glory!

I have identified 100 low to medium competition keywords with 1,000+ monthly searches and a google estimated CPC of over £2. (some really great ones in there with 20,000+ searches and £5 per cick).

Putting an order in now to the article writer to get 100 articles on these keywords. This will make up the content on 9 wordpress blogs on seperate domains but all on the same IP.

These keywords are going to be optimised strictly white hat as my intetion is to create some valuable and visible web property that will generate leads that can be brokered and advertising revenue from offline sponsors (no adsense).

I'm hopig at worst case scenario to get 5-10 good money keywords ranked inside 3 months so I can cover my costs and if things are looking a little peaky do a quick flip for some instant cash.

I should be able to do a lot more really but nothing in life is certain. I have 3 niche sites that I will be playing around with today. Going to go send some emails out to see if I can aquire any cheap re-sale rights for one of my stes that is already getting traffic. The companies providing the product in this niche have rubbish affiliate pages that aren't converting my pre-sold traffic from my review page. I want to create a cheap impulse buy at $9.95 (currently promoting at $47 membership) that will hopefuly convert a lot of the traffic I'm getting.

Don't think I'll get aroud to making any autoblogs today as I have too much whitehat stuff to do, but you never know.

Censorship at Warrior Forum

I woke up this morning to find my thread had been deleted.

No idea why, no PM to tell me either. Was it because I offered to tell people how to market their business for free?

Perhaps they thought I was going to create a WSO from this experience. Well, they would be wrong. I will go into the IM field one day, but that will be the day that I have a few million stashed up in the bank and a brand new system to release that no one else is using.

OK, it 4.20am and I havent gone to sleep yet. Kinda dreading the week ahead of me.

I have chosen a celebrity name and created a hub page with a little text and some pictures and movies. (Got 1 fan almost instantly).

A guy I'm chatting with right now about IM gave me a super tip for hub pages.

Do a google search for:

site:hubpages.com keyword inurl:hot hubs

This brings back the hot hub pages with good page rank. Then go into your hub and use each of these as tags and you will get listed in each one. I liked this trick!

I created a list of movie blogs and did a spam. There is aroud 20,000 exact searches a month for this name I am targetting but the competition doesnt really phase me. If it works I will rinse an repeat.

Right now whats annoying is that my author profile page is ranking but the actual hub isn't. Hopefully in a week or 2 I will take place in top 20 and I can test out the CPA poll method (fingers crossed it doesnt get my hub removed).

Made some contacts with some professional blackhatters today. Nice guys, one of them offered to school me in the latest tactics so I could get brought up to speed. Not sure what it is about guys who promote the porn industry but they all seem to have a wicked sense of humor.

My apparent "get rich and which way" attitude seems to have rubbed some people up the wrong way. That is unfortunate but doesn't deter me. Do people selling weight loss pills or tooth whitening systems get such a hard time? No, they slide by without comment. In truth these products are rubbish. Eating acai berries wont make you lose weight. Stop eating cakes and fast food and you will lose weight. Will using pro white pen make your teeth white? No, how white your teeth become is based on the strngth of the bleach and the pens have a very low concentration. This product is usually given to patients who have already had a strong bleach applied by dentist to keep the teeth white afer the treatment.

Anywhere you look in internet marketing there are shady areas. My long term goal is to create a free video tutorial website and monetize the traffic. I cannot even start this project until my bills are covered on auto pilot.

Anyway I am rambling now. Tomorrow I will register some aged domains and setup some autoblogs. I have a white hat project I was meant to be starting up that was going to cost me a couple of grand. Gotta do some serious thinking to see if I spend this money or if I save it for bills.

Today was not the best day of the year for me...

This is how my day went.

9.00am - wake up and check the balance. £19,000 overdrawn (maxed to limit)

10.00am - Check the post and find a £20,000 back vat bill ontop of all the other tax already outstanding.

11.00am - add all the bills together and realise I'm £60,000 in the red.

It was some time after this that I came to the realisation that I will have to lay off all of my employees and start liquidation procedures.

Bottom Line: I have no income and will have around £16,000 personal debt after I wrap up company.

But hey! That's life. This isn't a blog about me feeling miserable for myself, this is a blog to motivate me and track my progress of getting back on track.

I have several goals for the next few months and year. Which are:

Make sure I wrap up company legally
Start making enough income to pay my stupidly high mortgage and bills
Create a passive profit that covers all of my overheads
Sell my ass off to pay off the personal debt
Come up with a new business idea and set it up.

I know a lot of people are in the same boat as me and also turning to IM as a solution. I have turned over millions of pounds in sales over the last few years and now I am reduced to pretty much nothing (less than nothing even). No savings, no income, no security.

My tools:

8 years worth of SEO and marketing experience
Basic .net programming skills
Good telesales skills

So why am I writing about this? Well, partly to motivate myself, partly to help others in the same situation as me, and maybe partly just to keep me sane.

I plan on documenting my progress back to the top. Each idea I have or avenue I follow I will write about it here and let people (well, assuming anyone reads this) know what happens and how well it turns out.

So, step 1.

I am going to have a lot of loose ends to tie up with all my creditors who all want a bit of my blood for themselves. So the first goal is to turn some quick profit to pay the bills at the end of the month.

Yesterday I bought Xrumer, a blackhat tool to spam links. Yes, I know what your thinking, and guess what? I don't care! I will be pissing many people off using it but right now I dont have the time to lay down links manually or pay expensive link building costs.

My 2 pronged attack for this month is to:

1. Create autoblogs on low competition keyphrases and monetize the traffic
2. Sell web design, copywriting, seo & marketing services by cold calling companies.
